Good Neighbour Scheme Companion or Befriender

One Place East

A Good Neighbour Scheme is a voluntary initiative, run by a group of local residents who want to help the people in their locality to enjoy a better quality of life by offering them support with everyday tasks. This helps to build a stronger and more resilient community, where people know each other and help out where needed. The schemes are generally operated via a mobile phone, held by a volunteer who will put users in touch with a volunteer who can help them. One Place East aim to be the central point of contact and will oversee the scheme within Redbridge.

We aim to provide help to anyone who needs our support, regardless of their age, ethnicity, background, or personal circumstances.

Please note that when applying for the Good Neighbour Scheme Companion or Befriender role you consent to your details being used for contact purposes and may be entered on to One Place East's database.

Main tasks and responsibilities

• Signposting

• Small Domestic Task/ Household Help

• Occasional Shopping

• Collecting Prescriptions

• Basic Technical Support and Training

• Short walks / Outings

• Low Level Gardening

• Posting/collecting letters / parcels

• Transport Service

Benefits to Volunteer

  • Induction and training will be provided
  •  Volunteers will receive recognition during  national Volunteers Week.
  • Expenses will be reimbursed
  • Assistance  with the application process and cover costs of DBS checks will be provided.

By applying for a volunteer position via Community Action Redbridge, the applicant is aware that they will be entered on to One Place East database for monitoring purposes. The applicant will be required to complete a One Place East application from and undergo an enhanced DBS check if their application is successful.
