About One Place East

One Place East promote equality and inclusion for disabled people, people with lived experience of mental health problems, long term conditions and people with a learning disability and Autism.

We deliver high-quality, culturally appropriate, accessible services responding to local need and the views of our service users. A key part of our work is challenging the stigma and discrimination that people experience in their everyday lives. We also provide information and signposting.

The One Place East Good Neighbour Scheme aims to connect local communities with support where needed. 

Please note that when applying for the Good Neighbour Scheme Driver role you consent to your details being used for contact purposes and may be entered on to One Place East's database.

Main tasks and responsibilities 

  • You will act as a ‘good neighbour’ driving people to appointments,
  • Assisting with shopping
  • Collecting prescriptions
  • And generally supporting people with disabilities who struggle to get out and about.

  • Assistance  with the application process and cover costs of DBS checks will be provided.

By applying for a volunteer position via Community Action Redbridge, the applicant is aware that they will be entered on to One Place East database for monitoring purposes. The applicant will be required to complete a One Place East application from and undergo an enhanced DBS check if their application is successful. 

What skills do I need?

Skills , attributes and qualifications 

  • Our drivers should be patient, emphatic, able to listen, non-judgemental, possess a clean driving licence, able to navigate safely,
  • Own a vehicle that is regularly serviced and where required, has a MOT.
  • Drivers do not require a WAV (wheelchair accessible vehicle) and are not expected to lift passengers into the car. 
  • Need to be 18+
