Our Sight Support Group is all about enhancing the lives of those facing visual challenges by creating a welcoming and inclusive environment where they can share experiences, learn and thrive.
Please note that when applying for the Sight Group Support Volunteer role you consent to your details being used for contact purposes and may be entered on to One Place East's database.
Main tasks and responsibilities
• Facilitate discussions and activities: this may include welcoming group members, making sure technical equipment is working for guest speakers, providing support to those with sight impairments to and from vehicles so they can access the building, making drinks and offering light refreshments.
• Be a listening ear: offer a compassionate and empathetic presence, allowing group members to express their feelings and concerns in a safe space.
• Foster Connections: Help build strong bonds and friendships among group members, promoting a sense of belonging and support.
Benefits to volunteer
By applying for a volunteer position via Community Action Redbridge, the applicant is aware that they will be entered on to One Place East database for monitoring purposes. The applicant will be required to complete a One Place East application from and undergo an enhanced DBS check if their application is successful.
Skills , attributes and qualifications
• Be empathetic, non-judgemental and able to remain impartial.
• Be a good listener.
• Be patient and understanding.
• Lived experience of disability or supporting somebody with a disability.
