Royal Gunpowder Mills
The Royal Gunpowder Mills is a 170 acre site protected for its’ industrial heritage and natural history. Almost the whole site is classed as a Scheduled Ancient Monument (SAM) and is designated a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI).We open to the public to share the exhibitions and offer tours and activities. We run a schools programme that fits with the history of the site and the National Curriculum. We offer hire space and interesting environments for filming. The charity’s aims are to protect, preserve and enhance the special aspects of the site and to share the story of the industrial and social history, the science and the nature.
Main tasks and responsibilities:
• To assist the Royal Gunpowder Mills staff with “front of house” duties in providing a high quality service to visitors
• To meet and greet visitors and welcome them to the site
• To guide and help visitors to get the most out of their visit ensuring they have an enjoyable and safe time
• On busy weekends welcome visitors in from the car park, tell visitors about the events happening that day and direct visitors to the site entrance.
• To assist in answering visitors questions and/or directing them to where they might find further information
• Help visitors to operate the lift , check on the running of the film and exhibition interactives in our main exhibition building.

Ideally you would be willing to volunteer days (or half days) on Sundays and/or bank holiday Mondays. There is a rota for when we are open to the public. Volunteers offer their time and a rota is drawn up to best cover the tasks.
