**Support the Deaf Community: Volunteer at Our Annual Street Party!**

Empowering Deaf Society

Empowering Deaf Society, a small Deaf-led charity dedicated to advocating for the rights of the Deaf community in London. We support the most vulnerable in the Deaf community, including Deaf children and families.

We host street party each year to celebrate Deaf culture and foster connections between the Deaf and hearing communities. We are looking for volunteers to join our team at this year's Deaf Street party - our big annual summer deaf party for the deaf community on Saturday 6th July 2025.

Volunteers are vital to supporting the work that we do and holding such events and we would love your support!

What We Are Looking For in Our Volunteers

We are seeking enthusiastic and dedicated individuals to join our team of volunteers for this year's Deaf Street Party. 

Main tasks and responsibilities

We are looking for any volunteers who can give their time and/or their expertise to support. 

We need volunteer:

Videographers and Photographers

  •  Previous experience in videography or photography is preferred.
  • Equipment: Must bring their own camera and related equipment.
  •  Insurance: Volunteers should have their own insurance cover for their equipment if applicable (for videographers and photographers).

Event Volunteer and General Assistance

  • Help Empowering Deaf Society staff with event setup, coordination, and attendee support.
  • BSL Skills: Basic knowledge of British Sign Language (BSL) is a plus but not mandatory.
  • Setting up and dismantling stalls.
  • Assisting with games and children's activities.
  • Managing food and drink stations.
  • Providing general event support from around 9 AM to 7 PM (flexible hours).

Other roles available: 

Face painting & creative activities (henna, arts & crafts)

Supporting children’s activities (experience with kids is a plus!)

Bouncy castle duty

Serving tea & coffee

Helping with set-up & pack-down

We welcome volunteers from all backgrounds, both deaf and hearing, to support us in making this event a memorable experience for the deaf community.

What skills do I need?

Skills, attributes, experience and qualifications:

  • Good communication and interpersonal skills. 
  • The ability to interact with both deaf and hearing attendees.
  • Be a team player with the ability to work well within a diverse team.
  • Adaptability and flexibility to handle various tasks and responsibilities during the event.
  • Enthusiasm and energy and a positive approach to ensure a welcoming atmosphere for all participants.
  • Need to be 18+
  • Availability:  Be available on the day of the event 9am-7pm (flexible hours)
  • Pre-event meetings or training sessions-volunteers would  need to attend these when necessary
  • Transportation: Access to reliable transportation to and from St. Lawrence Church, Ilford.
