Volunteer Conversation club leader

 Conversation Club Volunteer :  This role offers an excellent opportunity for individuals who are interested in gaining experience in teaching or supporting others to improve their English communication skills. It’s ideal for anyone considering a career in adult education or for those who wish to make a positive contribution to their community.

Main tasks and responsibilities 

  • Volunteers will facilitate friendly, informal conversation sessions to help learners build confidence in speaking English.
  • The commitment is flexible — just 2 hours per week can make a real difference.
  • We provide a 4-week training programme delivered by a qualified ESOL teacher, designed to equip you with practical strategies, resources, and lesson ideas to              help you run a conversation club independently.
  • We would need to be available for these dates:

                                                                                         1st May- induction day,

                                                                                         8th May-Training 

                                                                                         22nd May-Training

                                                                                         5th June -Training

                                                                                         26th June- Training

Benefits to Volunteer

  • Ongoing support will be available, including activity ideas, teaching materials, and regular check-ins. 
  • As an added benefit, volunteers will also gain free access to three related certified short courses, further enhancing their skills and employability.


What skills do I need?

Skills, attributes, experience and qualifications

  • Someone who enjoys connecting with people and wants to help others improve their English!
  • Friendly and approachable – able to make others feel comfortable and welcome.
  • Good communicators with strong spoken English skills – Level 2 or above in English; confident in speaking clearly and encouraging conversation.
  • Empathetic and supportive – understanding that learners have different confidence and language levels.
  • Reliable and committed – able to give a couple of hours each week.
  • Open-minded and culturally aware – keen to meet people from diverse backgrounds.
  • Willing to teach in community spaces across Redbridge, such as libraries, community centres, and children’s centres.
  • No previous teaching experience is required — we’ll provide full training, resources, and ongoing support to help you succeed!
