Ward Volunteer

Saint Francis Hospice

We are looking for warm, compassionate and reliable people to support individuals in our care and their loved ones through meaningful, non-clinical interaction.

This is a rewarding role where you will help create a welcoming and supportive environment, offering companionship and practical support during what can be a difficult time. If you enjoy connecting with others and making a difference through small but important moments, this could be the opportunity for you.

Main tasks and responsibilities

  • Spending time with individuals through conversation and companionship
  • Offering reassurance and helping to reduce feelings of loneliness
  • Welcoming individuals and their loved ones to the ward
  • Supporting individuals to move around the hospice, such as visiting the gardens
  • Helping individuals stay in touch with loved ones using their own devices
  • Assisting with mealtime support, including serving meals
  • Setting up and clearing away meal trays
  • Restocking ward and visitors’ kitchen areas
  • Supporting with the evening drinks trolley (evening shift only)

What skills do I need?

Skills, attributes, experience and qualifications

  • Are you a good listener with strong communication skills?
  • Are you comfortable supporting people who may be unwell or distressed?
  • Are you patient, kind and empathetic?
  • Are you able to work independently and as part of a team?
  • Are you reliable with good timekeeping?
  • Are you physically able to carry out the role?
  • Are you able to commit to a regular or flexible shift pattern?
  • Need to be 18+ years old

Details

Hours: Monday to Sunday Morning Shift (9am - 1.15pm); Afternoon (1.30pm - 4.30pm); Twilight (5pm - 7pm); Evening (7pm - 8.30pm). Monday - Friday Shifts can be covered on a regular basis or on a flexi basis; Saturday and Sundays or covered on 1 in 4 rota basis.
