Ilford Sea Rangers is a youth group for girls aged 10-18.
Sea Ranger Association – “Sea Rangers” – is a charity providing girls and young women the opportunity to experience a variety of activities, principally water-based. We enable members to build confidence and self esteem and provide opportunities to gain both practical skills and valuable life skills and enable them to make a positive contribution to their local communities. We offer activities through which all involved can be themselves, build lifelong friendships and at the same time have FUN!
Volunteer Youth Work Assistant
This is a great role for a women, who love the outdoors, gets on well with young people and enjoys having fun, whilst learning and supporting others to develop skills and confidence.
We are looking for a volunteer Youth Work Assistant aged 18+ to help with canoeing at Fairlop Lake/ Fairlop Outdoor Centre, Forest Road, Hainault on Friday evenings 7pm-9pm.
Volunteers will be needed to meet at Fairlop lake for the summer until July
19th.
Main Task and responsibilities
- To help with canoeing at Fairlop Lake/ Fairlop Outdoor Centre.
- During poor weather organising fun indoor activities for the girls to take part in.
- To help deliver fun and inspiring sessions to girls with the opportunity to lead on certain tasks.
- Our groups offer the chance for volunteers to develop their skills and gain work experience working with children within a youth group setting.
- It’s also an opportunity to gain confidence and share skills amongst the volunteer team.
- Helping run activities for the girls, organising any materials needed for the sessions and helping with set up, tidy up and refreshments
- Leading on activities as agreed with the volunteer team
- Taking phone calls register and other admin roles.

Skills, attributes, experience and qualifications
- Enjoy outdoor water based activity, such as canoeing and swimming.
- Happy to be a supportive member of the team, helping out wherever needed and communicating with the Group Leader/Coordinator and fellow volunteers about availability
- A passion for building the confidence of girls and young women through fun and inspiring activities
- Ideas for activities to run with girls or a willingness to learn about how to plan and run activities
- Willing to take a training course in First Aid or Food Hygiene
- Able to work with and within diverse communities
- This opportunity is only available for female volunteers
